Ok so I think Im going to try, in installments, to tell everyone whats going on at work and all the craziness that it is. This week we have lots of training since 1/31 is the cutoff for our order entry system changeover.
Wait, hold on, I should probably describe what it is I do first. Less than a year ago the division of the company I work for, which supplies forms for banks (think any form you could use at a bank, from teller reciepts to ATM envelopes to tax forms) switched to a new front end for their order entry which allows them to log on to a website and place them themselves. Great in theory, and for the most part it is, but any custom form we create is priced differently for almost every customer depending on number of ink colors, logo complexity, how much the sales rep wants to mark up their order (I hate markup, Ill probably go on a rant about that in a different post), and a whole bunch of different things. Making this even more difficult is the fact that once this order is placed in the front end web based software its automatically downloaded into the old order software which is what everything works off of... accounting being the big one. Changing the cost and adding the price to these isnt a big deal in the old system but in this aforementioned new system changing both the cost and the price will each take about 3x longer than doing both in the old system. Thats a big problem.
